Iowa’s Natural Resources and Outdoor Recreation Trust Fund was created by Iowans in 2010. More than 63% of Iowans voted for a constitutional amendment to create the Trust Fund, establishing a permanent source of funding for clean water, outdoor recreation, soil quality, and wildlife habitat. The Trust Fund requires a 3/8ths cent increase in the state sales tax to receive funding. The Trust Fund has remained empty for a decade because the state has not taken action to increase the sales tax.
We call on the Iowa State Legislature to increase the state sales tax by 3/8ths of a cent to fund the Trust and provide greatly needed funding to protect Iowa’s waters, enhance outdoor recreation opportunities, improve quality of life for Iowans, and strengthen the state’s economy.
Our coalition is made up of individuals and organizations from across Iowa that want to see the Natural Resources and Outdoor Recreation Trust Fund funded.
